WDI provides 500 free medical checks, drugs

Efforts to fight malaria and communicate messages of prevention and treatment, the Westfield Development Initiative (WDI) has provided medical services, drugs, and long lasting insecticide treated Nets, LLINs to over 500 families during our 4th Medical Mission. According to the Executive Director of Westfield Development Initiative, Mrs. Omobola Lana, the free health outreach was part of our activities to commemorate the 2017 World Malaria Day. It was held at the Olugbede Market in Egbeda, Lagos.

Health Educators deployed at the venue of the programme repeatedly provided Malaria counselling, general health and environmental care talks to community members at the Olugbede market, Egbeda, as the benefiaries took turns to receive these care services.

The medical services provided by the WDI included body weight check which involved getting the body mass index of beneficiaries, hypertension and diabetic screening, HIV/AIDS testing, as well as malaria testing for attendees who showed signs of malaria symptoms. Also, WDI gave out free drugs including Aratex, Tuxil-D, Pilprofem Citramin, among others. During the programme Lana said “Malaria is preventable and treatable and the Westfield Development Initiative outreach was aimed to get more LLINs into homes, to communicate the message of malaria prevention and appropriate treatment so as to hopefully improve preventive practices as well as reduce incidence of malaria in Alimosho.”
